Injury Facts & True Cost of MSDs
We unpack injury statistics and discuss the true costs of musculoskeletal injuries in the workplace. We show ways to calculate Return on Investment (ROI) for training and other workplace health and safety controls.
Manual Handling Risk Identification, Assessment & Control
We review typical work practices and work tasks (either onsite or virtually) to identify hazards, assess risk and discuss controls – all within the context of key legislative frameworks and guidelines. Each participant applies this process to their own organisation and its unique manual handling challenges.
Safe Patient Handling & Risk Management
We review patient care and patient transfers to identify hazards, assess risk and discuss controls – again we refer to relevant legislative guidelines. Each participant applies this process to their own organisation and its unique patient manual handling challenges.
Psychosocial risk factors & MSDs
It’s important to understand the impact of mental stress on musculoskeletal disorders in the workplace. Each participant reviews their organisation in the light of 15 x psychosocial hazards and their likely risk and we discuss a range of controls.
Peer to Peer Coaching
A key role of the Backsafe Inhouse Trainer is to be able to take immediately action when they see a fellow worker lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or restraining a load or patient in a way that moves their body out of the Backsafe Safety Zone. We go through our step-by-step coaching approach based on the shared value of causing no harm.

The Backsafe Difference
Backsafe Training has been around for 30 years. We have trained staff from a range of organisations so that people caring for clients become aware of their body position and health implications whether they are caring for aged, adult or young clients/patients in the home, in hospital, in healthcare facilities or in residential care and disability facilities.
Our goal is to reduce the incidence and severity of musculoskeletal injuries resulting from manual handling hazards when lifting and moving materials, equipment and transferring people.
We have tried everything and know what it takes to change poor habits that lead to musculoskeletal injury. Our comprehensive training system will give you the tools to break through to any adult learner and smash the poor manual handling culture across your organisation.
Our Train the Trainer course will provide you with the latest evidence-based methods for planning, delivering and assessing manual handling and patient moving training for inhouse staff. We will help you to:
- Build your knowledge in safe work practices & good body biomechanics.
- Develop your skills in identifying, assessing and controlling manual handling risks.
- Give you tools to coach & train others to achieve lasting behaviour change.
- Show you how to measure and track your impact across the organisation.
- This will not only make you indispensable – it will bring about tangible results to the organisation you work for.
